Message from the Past-President

It was an interesting meeting last month - both in the elections and also our guest speaker.  We had a good turn-out and we welcome Sue Scott into the Vice-President position, Patti Sorensen had agreed to continue as our 2nd VP,  Debbie Achtymichuk continues to be our excellent Treasurer, Lorna Offet and Bonnie Stonehouse will be sharing the secretary's position but at the end of the elections, the President's position had not been filled...until now!!

At our monthly Executive meeting, Patti Sorensen offered to be our President!  Going through the bylaws, it states that the Executive can actually assign an individual to that position so another election is not necessary.  BUT we now have another position that does need to get filled:  2nd Vice President.  So again - we are asking for a volunteer to come forward to fill this position.  Anyone interested should contact myself or Patti.  Patti has held that position for the past couple years, so she would have all the info needed regarding that position.

I want to thank Patti for taking on the position - I know she'll have fun and will get lots of support from the group and I know her presidential goals will only make SWCA better. I also want to thank Diana Templeton and her telephoning volunteers for doing a great job as the Nominations Committee.

Our program hosted Janette Hubka from the AGA's Rental Program and it was such a fun and interesting presentation.  LOTS of questions were asked and answered and I hope members considering entering their rental program have a great experience!

I looks like we actually survived the coldest February in the past 40 years and that being said, this is a quick reminder that we will be talking about the possibility of switching the two months off period from July/August to  January/February.  We need to hear from you if this is good move so we look forward to seeing you at April's meeting.

Aaaand next month you'll be enjoying Patti's President Message!  Yay!!

Eveline Garneau, Past-President

The workshop will be spent getting used to the paper and it’s unique qualities - we’ll do a series a small paintings (6" x 6”) exploring drawing techniques, washes, layering and how to create an exciting painting from a wet in wet background.  We’ll also practice lifting paint to create wonderful lights and textures.

Karen will also talk about Yupo paper, it’s unique qualities and how to finish your work properly.

Edmonton Art Book Project

Book Committee

We had a meeting mid March and things are moving forward. Thus far, we have had 11 artists submitting up to three painting each.  This is a great start but we need more!!  Here is your monthly encouragement to get painting Edmonton!!  All work should be photographed very well (nice and straight, no foreshortening) and with the highest resolution you can.   Send them to swcabook@gmail.com with title, medium and a one paragraph blurb about the scene. Next Book Committee meeting will be held in May.  Notice of it will be in the next newsletter.

People's Choice Winners

We had enough paintings brought in to be able to choose 2 winners. Congratulations to Myrna Wilkinson and Cornelia Martin-Hansen. The next People's Choice selection will happen at the May meeting.
